It’s that time of year we often make resolutions for the following year. While 2020 will go down in history as a very challenging interesting year, it will also be a year I discovered Spring. You might be thinking, what does that even mean? During the pandemic, I had the privilege of going out on a run 3 to 5 times a week. I noticed the buds on the trees, the crisp air, the blooms of flowers, the sun on my face, and birds chirping. Again, I ask WHY do you run? What I learned last year was that I run because it clears my mind and helps me focus on the world around me, literally. As I would head out, sometimes my motivation was low but then I would hit the road and hear the birds chirping, squirrels scuffling, and deer prancing. I noticed for the first time, that when I was out there, I could take a breather and see the beauty around me. Sounds corny, right? But it was peaceful, calm, and my mind would settle into a relaxed state. Yes, I said it! I was running but relaxed. It was often just me on a quiet road thinking about life, nature, and the beauty around me. This is another reason I run! My legs were moving, my body was burning calories, and my mind was settled. I thought about things that frustrated me, people who were difficult, people I loved, and my day but during it all, I was ready to move forward, all because I ran. Again, I ask why are you running? Are you finding the numerous benefits that exist in this sport?
