First I want to say we were all created to be real. Don’t be your own critic, be your own congratulator! We ALL battle cellulite, even the fittest. We ALL have physical “flaws” (that’s our personal assessment of them), but we also ALL have awesome, beautiful physical attributes as well, and should first focus on those, play them up, and carry ourselves with confidence and poise, because that is truly what others see first. That being said, if we can make healthier choices and healthy efforts that can improve us and our confidence, there is nothing wrong with that, and in fact we should!
Cellulite is water, fat, and lymphatic fluid trapped in the webbing of collagen fibers under the skin. It is the result of extra pounds, genetics or both. Hardly any woman escapes it entirely. From overweight to thin, it affects more than 85% of woman, but more particularly, those who are overweight. But you CAN ATTACK IT! Here’s how:
~DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. Only water! To flush out subcutaneous water retention. This is one of the reasons (of many) that I never drink alcohol. Alcohol creates dehydration in the body, which is what would cause the body to retain for survival.
~NUTRITION. This one will be the biggest focus. Everything physical is affected most by our nutrition. Reducing your body fat percentage is a key player in reducing cellulite. Nutritionally, you can work magic on your skin. Reduce your body fat percentage by eating enough lean protein, 100% whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and staying away from sugary and stripped carbohydrates. Sugar attacks your skin, making the elastin and collagen glob together. The tighter you keep your diet, the tighter your skin. The cleaner your food choices, the less pronounced your cellulite. The idea is to reinforce the toughness of the outer layer of your skin by giving it every nutrient possible. Over time your skin will respond by reestablishing its suppleness, resilience and luster. Engineered quasi-foods will have a detrimental, negative affect on your body, and particularly your skin. With good nutrition, in as little as 3 weeks, you will notice your skin looking not only less dimply and more smooth, but brighter and more glowing.
~EXERCISE. Technically skin does not respond to exercise by toning – it is the muscle that responds to exercise. As a muscle grows and becomes fuller and more toned, the overlying skin sits upon it more tightly. Adding muscle tone to your legs and butt (the place most of our cellulite collects) makes the skin firmer, which makes it smoother. But don’t stop at your butt and legs, building muscle evenly throughout the body is what reduces body fat percentage, and we want firm arms and bellies too! Not to mention a small waistline!
~Stretch. The more you build muscle and stretch and loosen the fibrous bands that squeeze the fat, the less puckery the cellulite will be.
These require a little discipline and effort, but hey, rockin’ the shorty shorts, tube tops and swim suits are worth it and YOU ARE WORTH IT TOO!
