What does your typical week look like when you’re focused? Here’s a glimpse into mine; to prepare for the week I start by picking up groceries after church followed by meal prepping on Sunday evenings because boy does meal prepping make life so much easier, especially when trying to eat clean or follow any sort of meal plan! When Monday rolls around I look forward to crushing my first workout of the week, usually two upper body days and two lower body days, resting on Wednesday and if I’m feeling really froggy I just might add an extra leg day on Saturday. In between working out and making sure I get my meals in I make plans to study God’s word during the littlest ones nap time. I look forward to this time with God to renew my mind and refresh my inner man, feeling ready to take on the world!
Let’s. Get. Real. Sure, on a perfect week this is what my life really would look like. But often, in reality, life is rush, rush, rush. Everyday is busy, always on the go and before you know it grocery shopping get’s pushed from Sunday to Monday which means no meals prepped for Monday which then means I’m eating something out of convenience and not what I had planned to eat, instead of egg whites and oats it’s whatever I can find in the cabinet that is some what “healthy” or driving to the gas station for a protein bar. Already starting off on a bad foot feeling guilty about the food I’ve eaten completely wipes out all motivation I had to crush my Monday workout. Even though unmotivated I push through enough to complete the workout just so I can say I did it. In no way giving it my all, most likely lifting easy weight and shortening sets. Nap time rolls around and that time I had planned to spend with God has suddenly dropped to the lowest rung on the ladder. I’m overwhelmed with things that I need to get done and not to mention I need to meal prep for the rest of the week so I can start fresh on Tuesday. Before you know it Tuesday gets here and it’s starting to look a whole lot like Monday so I consider throwing in the towel and starting fresh the next week.
NO! That right there is called a pity party and a sorry excuse to give up. Of course we all have bad weeks but if we prioritize what our focus should be on I promise life seems so much better, from being less stressed to being more joyful even durning all the ups and downs life brings our way. God needs to be the first rung on the ladder, not the last. If He is getting ours leftovers and not our firsts we have our priorities out of order. We are all guilty of doing this at sometime or another in our lives, but a true regenorate heart will recognize this and want to take our eyes off of self and place them on Him.
We should get into a routine spending time with God in His word and in prayer just like we have routines for exercise. A healthy body is important but being healthy spiritually is even more important. Consider this, we eat foods with the right nutrition to fuel our bodies, well we also need to saturate ourselves in Gods word because this is how we feed ourselves spiritually. If we aren’t reading Gods word or spending time in prayer we are starving our souls. Just as physical sickness weakens the physical body, spiritual sickness weakens the spirit.
1 Timothy 4:8 says “for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” Godliness, righteousness, and the fear of the Lord are the remedy for spiritual sickness.
To sum it up, we must get our priorities straight meaning God comes first. When He is the center of our world everything else falls into place.
