Spring running…

April showers will bring may flowers AND allergies. Running outside can be a challenge with allergies. I often have a burn in the back of my throat that is uncomfortable and often causes me to be unmotivated. I have found a few work arounds that help me get out and enjoy the beautiful running weather. First, just like in the cold I pop a cough drop in my mouth. The menthol helps with the burn or running nose. I usually keep the cough drop in my mouth for a mile, then spit it out. This seems to keep the burn in my throat at least tolerable. My other trick is honey. When spring flowers bloom I often find it helpful to take a teaspoon of honey (local) a few days of week. I do not love the calories, but it does seem to help my body adjust to the pollen levels. This is my favorite time of year, so I don’t’ want to miss a single run. The temperature is perfect, the sun is shining and its gorgeous outside with all the trees and flowers blooming. See you on the road!
