Treadmill anyone?

As the weather continues to impact winter running, have you considered the dreadmill (aka treadmill) as an option of where to run? I am not a fan of this type of running but there are some clear benefits. First, this is an efficient and convenient way to get the high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout done. It’s tough but so very true that the treadmill provides a path to a very structured workout. I once read a research report from Harvard urging runners to take advantage of this type of workout. The research suggested the following workout: Warm up for 5 minutes then every minute run 30 seconds moderate pace, increase the pace again for 20 seconds, then one more all-out pace for 10 seconds repeating this for 10 -12 minutes, and finally cooling down for 3 minutes. According to the study, this HIIT workout provides the same benefits and more calorie-burning than a 5-to-6-mile moderate pace run. Can you believe it? Work out less and get more benefits! To be honest, the time goes fast and you’ll feel great afterward! So, again when considering where to run…..consider this workout! I don’t think you’ll regret it!
