When Love Takes Over

I don’t know about you, but if I am not careful, I can hold on to things pretty tight. Holding on gives me the feeling of empowerment to be in control. In return, I can easily tense up and stress out. Surrender sure doesn’t come naturally for me. It is a minute by minute decision to peel my fingers back and release it to God.

The act of surrender breeds release into our life. When we release our possessions, body, and abilities over to someone with more authority, we submit to the power of that authority. Things will never go well for us on the outside if love has not assumed ownership on the inside. When love takes over, true life begins.

This is what it means to follow Jesus, according to Luke 9:23-24 (The Passion Translation),

Jesus said to all of his followers, “If you truly desire to be my disciple, you must disown your life completely, embrace my ‘cross’ as your own, and surrender to my ways. For if you choose self-sacrifice, giving up your lives for my glory, you will embark on a discovery of more and more of true life. But if you choose to keep your lives for yourselves, you will lose what you try to keep.

My friend, let us release control and find freedom in surrender!
